What a Work Tutor Is
A Work Tutor is the named contact at a participating local business — "We mainly work in shops but also in museums, bars and much more" — who accepts a student for an unpaid work experience. There are two types of experience: voluntary work, for everyone, or, in full compliance with the law, as a Curricular Traineeship, for high school students.
Two Routes into a Placement
An opportunity for everyone who is over 16, even pensioners. There are two types:
- Voluntary work, for everyone — volunteering in not-for-profit organisations. "Charities will be delighted to welcome you and you will be doing something good for the others."
- Curricular Traineeship — in full compliance with the law, for EU high school students.
Ours is an emulated international labour market, creating a real-world international work experience environment, in full compliance with the law, for EU and UK students and adults, either volunteering or on school programmes.

Which Sectors Take Placements
We mainly work in shops but also in museums, bars and much more. The offers range from the most common jobs, particularly useful for linguistic practice and relationships with others, to the more specialised ones, typical of certain high schools.

What a Work Tutor Is Not
- Not a teacher. A School House is a great host family providing full board accommodation, quality services, possibly a full time schedule and even with a qualified professional language teacher — that is where dedicated time is delivered.
- Not an employer in the pay-and-tax sense. The placement is unpaid.
- Not a Group-Leader. Individual arrangements for pick up and drop off are not necessary for group departures, as the Group-Leader will lead students there. 14 and 15 year old students must travel in accompanied groups, with a teacher/adult travelling there and back with them; it could be a parent or an over 18 year old friend or relative.
