The Traineeship Marketplace
Unpaid work placements and volunteering count as Curricular Traineeships for 16 to 19-year-old international students, delivered through Learn in a Flash's free-to-use traineeship marketplace. The programme has led to an award-winning student success story, culminating in first prize; official links and news articles can be found by searching “PCTO a Nottingham first prize at the Chamber of Commerce”.
Learn in a Flash states that the traineeship was formally validated by the student’s school and entirely designed and managed by Learn in a Flash — from creating the marketplace and sourcing placements, to training, safeguarding and DBS checks, international legal compliance, paperwork, and full support for students, school and work tutors, headteachers, parents, host families and host organisations, including mediation between all parties and local area management. Learn in a Flash represents over 30 high schools, and private language schools too.
An Opportunity for Everyone
An opportunity for everyone who is over 16, even pensioners. You can combine your lessons, sports activities and tourism working part-time, or getting a full-immersion with a full-time job. This at local businesses with local managers, colleagues and customers. There are two types: voluntary work, for everyone, or, in full compliance with the law, as a Curricular Traineeship, for high school students.
In Particular for High School Students
Ours is an emulated international labour market, creating a real-world international work experience environment, in full compliance with the law, for EU and UK students and adults, either volunteering or on school programmes. Work tutors may ask for an interview before accepting your application. We are talking about real work, even if unpaid — a great linguistic, cultural, working and life experience. Ask your high school to internationalise and support our international programmes to be able to fully take part.
For Everyone Else
Charities will be delighted to welcome you and you will be doing something good for the others. We mainly work in shops but also in museums, bars and much more. From the age of 16, with no upper limit, we also accept pensioners. Experiences are possible even with a lower English language level.
Find Work Experience
To start your unpaid work experience, submit an application to one of the participating businesses. The offers range from the most common jobs, particularly useful for linguistic practice and relationships with others, to the more specialised ones, typical of certain high schools.
No Co-Nationals
Either Curricular Traineeships, for EU high school students, or volunteering in not-for-profit organisations. In both cases, for our policy, you will not find another student of the same nationality or speaking the same language. There will be no other students of the same nationality or speaking the same language with the same Work Tutor. We accept requests for sharing School House and lessons, but they are denied for any work or volunteering experience.
Who Can Apply
Only over 16 year old students may apply for work experience. 14 and 15 year old students must travel in accompanied groups, with a teacher/adult travelling there and back with them — it could be a parent or an over 18 year old friend or relative.
